The French House, York
Friday evening took me to York Open Studios via two beautifully renovated flats which sit above Partisan & The French House, 112 Micklegate in the heart of York.
The Grade II Listed building within the York Bar Walls, is early 16th century and full of character. The building was partly rebuilt and refronted in 1745-48. Exposed beams, open fireplaces and furnished with The French House antiques; not to mention the being above my favourite cafe/restaurant which has yet more French House antiques for sale, delicious food and wonderful art on the walls (and for sale) the current exhibition is by Julia Burns Artist - I highly recommend a visit.
Should you wish to see a larger range of The French House antiques; the showroom/French House HQ is based on the outskirts of York and well worth a look. Everywhere I looked, I fell in yet another, interesting and rare piece. The range of stock is huge, something for everyone and a haven for interior designers and the like.
Inspired from the renovated flats, I swiftly moved on to the York Open Studios trail, although, there was so much to see in Mark Hearld & Emily Sutton's house that I only just managed a quick visit to Steve Williams before racing home. I'm going back for round two on Saturday with my two girls; it's an education & privilege being able to see these talented artists studios, within their homes and meet the artists!
